Illustration detailing the bill and crest of a Great Hornbill.
The crest on the hornbill serves no known purpose, and it
thought to be the result of sexual selection. The young
hornbill has no trace of a casque at birth, which becomes
fully developed by age five. The size and color of the great
hornbill have made it an important part of tribal cultures.
The great hornbill is found in India, Bhutan, Nepal,
Sumatra, and the mainland of Southeast Asia.
